Where generators fit
Fuel can provide extended runtime when resupply is possible, and generators can support substantial loads. They also require safe outdoor operation, fuel management and maintenance.
Where batteries fit
Battery systems are quiet and avoid combustion exhaust at the point of use. Runtime is constrained by stored energy unless you have a reliable way to recharge them.
Safety is not a footnote
CDC warns that carbon monoxide from generators can kill without warning and instructs users to keep generators outdoors at least 20 feet from doors, windows and vents.
Choose from the load backward
Estimate essential wattage and runtime first. A solution sized for phones, lights and a router is fundamentally different from one intended to support refrigeration or larger household circuits.
